TO MARK Armed Forces Day, Winchester's Peninsula Barracks hosted their annual On Parade event.

On June 19 the site came alive with military history which included new displays and live shows.

This year, the national Armed Forces Day will be held on Saturday June 25.

It was opened by the Mayor of Winchester Cllr Jane Rutter.

There were live performances from The Spitfire Sisters, The Rifles Band and Bugles, alongside a Gurkha piper and the Gurkha Kukri Dancers.

As a nod to Winchester’s military history, The Rifles Living History Society showcased World War One drills and some skills.

There was also a display of a World War Two first aid post, complete with padre.

The Rifles also hosted a paintball target range and the Kings’ Royal Hussars brought a scimitar sword to showcase their skills.

Many residents who were keen to find out more about their military ancestors also attended the event to talk to researchers from the Hampshire Records Office.
