A SCHOOLGIRL with cancer has dyed her hair blue as she bids to get more people registered as stem cell donors.

Zara Shaikh, 13, of Nightingale Close, Winchester, was diagnosed with Leukaemia in November 2014.

She went into remission late last year but has now been told by doctors that the disease has returned.

The Kings’ School pupil will be going back for chemotherapy today (Thursday Feb 4) and said she always wanted to dye her hair and this is the perfect time to do it – as she will lose her hair during the treatment.

Her friends and family got into contact with Guy Kremer hairdressers on Parchment Street and the renowned salon accommodated Zara for free.

Hampshire Chronicle:

A spokesperson for Guy Kremer said they were happy to help and wished Zara the best of luck with her chemotherapy.

Her mother, Kerensa Shaikh, said: “She is such a brave girl, and has so much strength, you would never know that she was poorly.”

“We have been searching both nationally and internationally (for a match) but have yet to find anyone. That is why I am urging as many people as possible to sign up in case they are a match, if not for Zara then for someone else who is also in need.”

A spokesperson for Delete Blood Cancer UK said: “We wish Zara all the best as she embarks on her treatment and will be working hard to find a matching donor for her.”
