A NEW book has been published to help school bosses plot the way their grounds are designed.

Hampshire County Council's landscaper designers are behind the publication called ‘A Fresh Approach to School Landscapes’ and the book cost £6.99.

Hampshire cabinet spokesman for education, Councillor Peter Edgar, urged schools to buy a copy of the book which provides advice and ideas for schools planning to improve outdoor spaces..

Mr Edgar said: “School landscapes are full of opportunities to deliver enjoyable activities and build healthy lifestyles, providing an opportunity for school students to experience the wonder of nature first hand. Creating high-quality outdoor spaces inspires creative learning and environmental awareness that contributes to improved social skills and attitudes to learning.”

“This new book provides inspiration and advice for schools looking to improve their outdoor space and draws on inspirational case studies from schools across Hampshire. The methodologies and experiences shared throughout this book showcase the exemplary service provided by our in-house landscape designers.”

Officials at Hampshire Council say the publication is aimed at school governors and teachers looking at improving outdoor space for pupils.

Schools can buy the publication online or directly from Hampshire County Council’s Property Services.
