TORRENTIAL downpours have led to localised flooding in Winchester, with the High Street and neighbourhoods around the city overflowing.
Manhole covers were overflowing near the Buttercross during a period of heavy rain at around noon.
Standing water is reportedly building on roads in Stanmore, Winnall and Badger Farm, though no incidents have yet been made public by civic or highways authorities.

The deluge has also led to cracks emerging on a road in Twyford.
Resident Vicky Feldwick said: "It looks like the drain can't cope with the volume of water and the water has pushed through the road surface."

Meanwhile, huge puddles built up in lower High Street as shoppers reached for their umbrellas.
Staff at Tinc, which was flooded in previous downpours, said repaving works have prevented a repeat. But deep puddles outside the shop took more than half an hour to drain, they added.
The sudden downpour appears to have caught out some mobile weather apps:

But the forecast is optimistic for later:
It's a very soggy start in #Winchester today with buckets of #rain but there is a promise of #sunshine later!
