THE first cricket competition of a Winchester community group saw success for a batsman pair who celebrated by sharing their prize.

Ben Robbins, of the King Alfred Pub, and Graham Barrett, of Monks Road, scooped the top spot at the tense final innings of the Hyde900 event.

Their score was 50 after 70 runs and two outs. The pairs were drawn from the renowned Scrummagers Team and King Alfred Pub Eleven.

Start of play on Sunday (June 28) was slightly delayed by rain, but brisk competition was soon underway.

Post-match drinks and nibbles were enjoyed thanks to King Alfred Pub.

Ben and Graham shared their prize, a barrel of Saxon Bronze from Alfred’s Brewery, with fellow cricketers and spectators.
