STUDENTS in Eastleigh recently had a helping hand with deciding their futures.

Eastleigh College hosted its fifth annual ‘Meet the Employer’ event, where youngsters could discuss jobs and apprenticeships with potential future employers.

The event showcased more than 20 live apprenticeship vacancies across a range of industries including wood occupations, refrigeration and air conditioning, plumbing, business administration, dental nursing, accounting and hairdressing.

The employers answered students’ questions and showed them how to apply for the roles.

Services were also on-hand to help with CV writing and interview skills.

Josh Richardson, 15, said he found the event useful: “I think an apprenticeship is for me. I was hoping to learn plumbing alongside working.”

His father Pete Richardson added: “There is nothing like doing a job and getting a proper qualification under your belt. It stands you in a better stead for the future. The staff at the event were excellent, we found the information really helpful.”

Jay Mohindra, contracts manager at Radian Group Ltd which attended the event, said: “We have a good relationship with Eastleigh College - every apprentice we have had through the college has gone on to full-time employment at Radian.”
