A PARENT governor of an Alresford school is calling for information after a children’s learning area was vandalised.

The pond, which is shared between Sun Hill junior and infant schools and play groups, was damaged between 6pm on Wednesday April 15 and 8am the following day.

The picnic bench and a packing crate were thrown into the water, along with a log which is used around a fire pit, several bricks and two of the school’s bags of potting compost.

The lining has been punctured and the water level has started to lower.

Julie Mountain, a parent governor of the infant school and who also runs a playgroup from the site, said she spotted the damage and reported it to the police.

“It just shows huge disrespect to the town that we live in,” she said.

“This is part of a wave of anti-social behaviour in the town over the past two to three weeks. The school is something that most young people in the town have been to. It’s an outstanding school and both schools are really committed to children and young people, so to do something like that is hugely disrespectful and makes me very sad.”

There were also empty cans and bottles on the school field.

Ms Mountain said the pond was developed by the schools with the help of Alresford Pigs and Rotary, and the day before the incident children counted 17 newts plus snails, dragonfly nymphs and frogs.

She added that there have been other incidents in the town recently including daffodils being vandalised, bins tipped over into people’s gardens, urine on play equipment and youths found on the roof of the school.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101.
