A HAMPSHIRE woman has launched an appeal to find her great uncle’s fiancé, who disappeared after he was killed fighting in the First World War.
Maureen Duckworth, who lives in Gosport, doesn’t know the name of the mystery woman, only possessing a picture of her taken with relative Robert Cox.
He served in the Royal Marine Light Infantry, but was killed in France on August 26, in 1918.
Maureen’s family say his fiancé then vanished from their lives.
“I’m hopeful that someone may recognise her,” she said.
“She may have gone on to marry some else, I don’t know.
“I am very curious to know her name and where she came from – I firmly believe she was from Hampshire.”
Anyone who recognises the woman in the picture is asked to call 02392 589729.
