A WINCHESTER beautician is raising money for cancer research which helped treat her father in a bid to become Miss Hampshire.

Lauren Deane, 20, will offer an auction and grooming discounts on Saturday to raise cash for Planets, a Southampton charity studying pancreatic, liver and neuroendocrine tumours.

The hairdresser and nail technician is Winchester’s first ever Miss Hampshire finalist and is fundraising for the competition’s charity leg ahead of this month’s final.

Her father, Ken, is now in remission from pancreatic cancer after treatment at Southampton General Hospital.

She said: “It is a charity very close to my heart as my father fell ill with pancreatic cancer and is currently in remission.

“Without Southampton Hospital, the NHS and Planets, it could have been a very different story.”

Ms Deane is offering half price hair and nails at her home, in 36 Quarry Road, from 2pm on Saturday.

There will also be a jumble sale and auction with items donated by local businesses including The Hambledon, Boudoir Blush, Kitchen Shop and L’Occitane.

Donations will fund Planets’ sample bank which allows doctors to learn more about the disease and develop treatments.

The raffle is drawn at 6pm and there will be cake sales and refreshments throughout.
