IT has been two years in the making and now a Winchester boat enthusiast has broken a world record.

Marc Lyne, an IT director who has been boating for 25 years, knocked 14 minutes of the original record for circumnavigation of Anglesey in north Wales.

It took him and friend Dean Watson one hour and 21 minutes to complete the 68 nautical miles in a power boat.

“I'm chuffed that we got the weather and that we have knocked 14 minutes off which will make it tougher for the next person,” he said.

“There's something quite nice about setting a record.”

The 47-year-old is no stranger to the challenge though - last year he was set up and ready to go but the weather was so bad he couldn't compete.

“It's quite a challenging piece of water because there are four tidal currents,” he said.

He thanked Raymarine UK, Dave Crawford Marine, The Marine Club and Menai Bridge in Anglesey for their sponsorship, help and support.

Now he wants to take on an 18-hour circumnavigation of Ireland and set another record, but needs to 'work out the maths first'.
