WICKHAM schoolchildren will fly their flag with extra pride after designing a new banner to lead service processions.

Every child at Wickham Church of England Primary School had a hand in designing a new church school banner.

Pupils will carry the embroidered flag when they walk to St Nicholas’ Church for Easter, Harvest, Christmas and end-of-year services.

Children submitted their ideas using the school’s badge, colours and Christian values before school council approved the final ‘Tree of Learning’ design.

Each child sewed an individual leaf onto the tree with the help of volunteers from the church and Meon Valley Decorative and Fine Arts Society.

Headteacher Maria Ackland said: “Our children are absolutely over the moon with the design of our new church school banner as it uses all of their ideas.

“We are delighted that every child has helped to create this wonderful new banner which we will carry with pride.”

The project was sponsored by the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies, a charity which supports the arts in schools and interest groups.
