POLICE are investigating a possible arson after a car was found in flames in a country park near Winchester.
Firefighters were called to put out a Volkswagen Passat which was found burning in the middle of Roman Road, near Farley Mount, at 7am today.
Watch manager Sean Grey said the abandoned car was almost burnt out when crews arrived and could have been in flames for up to half an hour.
A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: "The vehicle has been completely destroyed by the fire and is in the process of being recovered.
“We are investigating the possibility the fire was caused deliberately and would like to hear from anyone with information who can assist with our enquiries.
“In particular, we would like to hear from anyone who saw the vehicle, a silver VW Passat, being driven in the area prior to the incident."
Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Nick Lark at North Walls police station on 101 or anonymous Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
