A WINCHESTER care home hosted a family fun day so children could meet dementia sufferers and better understand the condition.

Tegfield House, in Chilbolton Avenue, invited staff and carers to bring their children along for a day of Disney-themed activities on Wednesday, August 20.

Festivities included a bouncy castle and surprise visit from Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Donald Duck.

Sean Gavin, chief executive of Hartford Care, which runs Tegfield House, said: “Today we made a special effort to encourage children to visit our homes and most importantly have fun with our residents. As you can see from all the fabulous photos we certainly did have fun and we hope that today we have played a small part in creating a dementia-friendly generation.”

Organisers said the elderly residents enjoyed the bouncy castle just as much as the children.
