A WINCHESTER pub has unveiled plans for its newest venture as a unique and alternative wedding venue.

The Green Man, on Southgate Street, has launched vintage-themed wedding packages, for smaller-sized parties.

Owner, Jayne Gillin, said: “We do a lot of smaller weddings already and because we are a unique and independent venue it is much easier to provide a bespoke and tailored service,” she said.

“Vintage, Steampunk whatever the client wants. Vintage is the recognisable tag for something a bit different but we are not limited to that. A lot of people want themed weddings and we can do whatever they want. A larger hotel chain would have to stick to criteria and to recommended packages. We don’t.

“People are very interested because we can accommodate most budgets,” she added. “There are no hidden charges. It’s all very transparent and people can mix and match the options to suit their pocket. We have everything from a small buffet to a six course tasting menu and various fizz from Cava to Cristal. We specialise in vintage or Edwardian style but we are not limited to doing that.”

Ms Gillin said the facilities are not always fully utilised, particularly during the summer months, often drawing in Winchester locals rather than flocks of tourists.

“We are a pub without a huge outside space so if we can utilise our courtyard and our two function rooms for a quirky and intimate party then that works for everybody.”
