WINCHESTER City Council is set to save over £13,000 a year from switching the lightbulbs in one city centre car park.
Work to upgrade the lighting in the 613-space multi-storey car park, off Chesil Street, started on Wednesday (July 30) and will take four weeks.
It will see the current fluorescent lights replaced with 271 LEDs, which will reduce energy consumption by 50 per cent.
A city council spokesman said: “It is costing £50,000 and the investment will be recouped in under four years. The saving works out at approximately £13,300 a year, taking into account the reduced costs of energy, maintenance and less frequent replacement.”
It is the first scheme of its kind in a Winchester car park.
The replacement work is not expected to cause disruption.
