AN Alresford school is reshuffling its science department and celebrating a national award.

From September there will be a new head of science at Perins School, as leader of 20 years, Jo Davies, steps down.

She said: “I am now looking forward to getting back to doing the part of the job I really enjoy – teaching students.”

Basingstoke Gazette:

Jo Davies is stepping down after 20 years as department head.

Sarah Henderson will take over and oversee the introduction of the new curriculum, which she says better prepares students.

“The new Key Stage 3 curriculum changes will enable us to change how we assess the students at Key Stage 3, bringing it in line with Key Stage 4,” she said.

Basingstoke Gazette:

Sarah Henderson will take up post in September.

“This will help support the students in their GCSE examinations and encourage more children to consider science careers.”

It is hoped the reshuffle will help unite the work of the Perins STEM Club – which runs extra-curricular activities for science, technology, engineering and maths pupils.

The department is also celebrating as technician Judith Runnalls has been awarded the SALTERS-CLEAPSS National Award for Science Technicians.
