A WINCHESTER college student has received recognition for his design works at a specialist awards ceremony.

Peter Symonds College student Ben Nott was presented the award for Best Overall Design at the inaugural Southampton Solent University Design Award Competition.

He was joined by fellow students Ben Healey, a former Kings’ School pupil, Caspar Tatham and Josh Holden-Brown, formerly from Swanmore.

The competition, held at the end of last month, saw the four Peter Symonds College students battle it out against a number of other pupils from across Hampshire including Barton Peveril College student Emily Braybrook.

She was presented with the award for Most Creative Design.

Malcolm Cross, head of product design at Peter Symonds, said: “This year each of the participating colleges has four students competing but in the future we hope it will include many more students, from a wider range of establishments.”

He added: "The intention is for this to be the first of many such events run in partnership between Southampton Solent University and the Wessex Group of Colleges."
