AGE UK Winchester is set to benefit from possibly the last public opening of a private garden in Romsey.

The owners of Lake House are about to move and will hold their final open day on Sunday July 6, in aid of the charity.

The well-known garden has extensive planting, its own lake and beautiful views into the open countryside, a short stroll from the town centre.

The open day is a key fundraiser for Age UK Winchester that now supports around 800 people each year.

Its work includes lunch clubs, help at home, information, advice and befriending, all aimed at helping older people enjoy later life and retain their independence.

Kathleen Murray-Ure, from the charity, said: “Although the owners are moving, they have kindly agreed to welcome visitors to their wonderful garden for one more time. The open day means everyone can come and enjoy the garden while, at the same time, helping a local charity. It provides the perfect English Sunday treat, exploring and admiring the garden and its views, then sitting back and enjoying delicious cake, tea and coffee.”

The garden, on Mill Lane, is open from 11am till 4pm on July 6. Admission is £3.50 and children are free. There is ample free parking directly opposite and well behaved dogs, on leads, are welcome too. The postcode is SO51 8EQ.
