FOUNDERS of a scientific services firm in Test Valley have received an award recognising their hard work.

Cell biologists Steve Game and Alasdair Robertson set up SAL Scientific in August last year at a lab in the University of Southampton Science Park in Chilworth after their former employer closed the site at New Milton.

It is just one of over 400 new companies to be awarded as part of the Federation of Small Businesses.

Mr Game said: "We originally came to the Science Park to enquire about space for our company, but ended up entering the competition to win six months’ office space in the Catalyst Centre, with a successful outcome.

"We have consequently been based here since last September, but we are delighted to be permanently establishing our company here in Test Valley having benefited greatly from the support network in the region, the receipt of this Business Incentive Grant being a prime example.

“We will now be focusing on rolling out our products and services to companies and organisations involved in developing new medicines and diagnostic systems.”

Cllr Alison Finlay presented Steve and Alasdair with a cheque for £500 as part of the award.

She said: “Steve and Alasdair have done a fantastic job setting up SAL Scientific. It requires a lot of hard work and commitment to set up a company but there is a great deal of support out there. Test Valley Borough Council is one of many organisations that offers help to new businesses so it doesn’t need to be such a daunting process.

“I wish Steve and Alasdair all the best for the future.”
