Over a long career Tony, who lived in Romsey, gained the admiration and respect of colleagues and clients for his wide knowledge and attention to detail.

He was a member of the Association Building Engineers, a Fellow of the Incorporated Society of Valuers and Auctioneers, fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Mr Petersen was chairman of the Winchester Chamber of Commerce from 1993 to 1994.

He worked with the Diocese of Winchester Youth Offices on projects in Kenya, Uganda and the Philippines.

Closer to home Mr Petersen also worked for the Sunday Lunch project for homeless people in Southampton and the Winchester Night Shelter as well as volunteering for the Samaritans during the 1970s.

He is survived by his mother, Margaret, sister, Ann, brother, John, and partner, Dave.
