THE sound of children laughing and playing filled the air at an event to raise money for a charity that supports parents.

The National Childbirth Trust held an annual family fun day on Sunday (April 27) at Lanterns Childrens Centre on Bereweeke Road, and raised over £5,000 for Winchester Babies and Breastfeeding Information Encouragement Support (BABIES).

It included a mobile farm, face painting, a magician, and inflatable planetarium with shows led by an expert from Winchester Science Museum.

Organiser, Rachel Hardy, said over 600 people attended despite the heavy showers.

“It went really well,” she said.

“We hit our target and exceeded it so we are thrilled. We have got at least £5,300 with more still coming in as we tally up.”

Winchester MP Steve Brine attended with his family.
