HAMPSHIRE transport chiefs are to install a new zebra crossing in a Winchester suburb and remove three parking spaces.

The county council plans to build the new crossing on Stoney Lane, Weeke, near the Stockbridge Road junction this summer.

Since Waitrose, Aldi and the parade of shops on the northern side of Stoney Lane opened there has been a big increase in people wanting to cross the road.

The council says the crossing is needed to improve the safety of pedestrians.

The road will be resurfaced on the approach to the crossing.

To provide the crossing three car parking spaces are lost, two on the southern side and one on the north.

A Traffic Regulation Order will be advertised via local press and street notices. The public can comment by May 23, by email: implementation@hants.gov.uk or post to Strategic Transport, Economy, Transport and Environment Department, Hampshire County Council, SO23 8UD.
