Winchester welcomes Doctor Who crew at charity event
WINCHESTER welcomed famous faces all the way from the eighties on the weekend when former cast and crew members of Doctor Who came to the city.
The sixth incarnation of the Doctor, Colin Baker, joined with former technicians and other crew members at an event to raise money for Starlight – a charity which provides entertainment to terminally ill children.
A raffle was held for people to win an original mini TARDIS, a mini dalek and numerous figurines and Doctor Who memorabilia.
There were numerous stands showcasing a whole host of props, toys and collectibles from the hit series, which has been running since the sixties, as well as life-size costumes of the aliens the Doctor encountered and about half a dozen full-size daleks.
However Doctor Who was not the only show to feature on the day.
A DeLorean, known from the eighties classic Back to the Future, was on show for admirers of the film to sit in it and be photographed.
Organiser Chris Tarrant said: “We have had about 800 people so far and we’re hoping to raise as much money as we can. We’ve been doing this for 10 years and every year I’m reminded of how much work is involved – I’ve got numerous bruises from putting so many leaflets through people’s letter boxes – but it’s all worth it.”
Colin Baker said: “It’s lovely to meet all the fans of the Doctor and all these people have turned up to support a good charity. It’s also a chance for me to meet friends from the show.”
