A HAMPSHIRE man is one of three artists exhibiting their work at King John’s House next month.

Romsey landscape oil painter Richard Paul and his girlfriend, Leo Deville, will be showcasing their works along with Neal Griffin and Eri Urushidani at the spring exhibition 4 Shades of Purple at the popular Church Street museum from April 16 until April 21.

The exhibit will be open between 10am-5pm but will not be open on April 20.

Richard, 47, whose studies include New Forest landscapes and paintings of the Outer Hebrides, is a member of Romsey Art Group and has been painting for 20 years.

“I began painting in 1992 using coloured pencil initially, but soon experimenting with charcoal, pastels, and pen and ink,” he said. “I was living in Cambridge at the time and spent many sunny weekends sitting on the banks of the Cam sketching the iconic boat houses.

“In each picture I aim to capture something of the feel of the place through the quality and colour of the light – one aspect that photography so often fails to depict. For this reason I paint only the places and views that I have experienced first-hand.

Neil Griffin, a wildlife painter from Southampton, said: “I have exhibited at the National Exhibition of Wildlife Art and in 2010 and I was a runner up for the David Cook drawing award for my etching ‘giraffe sitting’ and I have been able to sell my work at various galleries and art markets.

“Art is something that I do in my free time but ideally I would love to be able to become a full-time artist.”
