WINCHESTER Basics Bank has celebrated its tenth anniversary with a special service in the cathedral.

The north transept welcomed around 80 guests, including the Mayor and Mayoress of Winchester, Ernie and Barbara Jeffs, and MP Steve Brine.

They joined trustees and staff of Winchester Basics Bank to mark ten years since the charity first opened its doors to clients. It provides foodstuffs to people in need.

Chairman of trustees, Jean Hart, described the event on Sunday (JAN19) as a “bittersweet moment” as she thanked all those who had been involved over the years.

“We are particularly grateful to our local churches, schools, businesses, press and individuals who have supported us so generously with their donations of food, clothing, time and money.”

A celebration cake was cut by manager, Frances Rogers, and long-serving volunteer, Renee Bowe, before the group joined a packed cathedral for the annual Unity Service, where Mr Brine read a lesson.
