WINCHESTER’S Chesil Theatre is once again inviting playwrights to submit ten minute scripts for its 10x10 Playwriting Competition.

Writers aged 16 and over have until midnight on Friday April 25 to send in a short play based on the theme of ‘150’, chosen specifically to coincide with the theatre’s 150th anniversary season.

The anniversary year will culminate in premiere performances of the ten winning plays.

Now in its fourth event, the producer, Deborah Edgington, is anticipating a big response.

She said: “What started out as a platform for just ten members of the Nuffield Theatre Writers’ Group in 2008 has now turned into a national competition for aspiring and emerging playwrights. The aim of 10x10 is to discover, promote and produce the very best new writing of 10 minute plays.

“Each time we run this event, the number of scripts we receive grows and grows, demonstrating what a wealth of talented writers there are out there, eager for the opportunity to have and see their own work performed”.
