TWO schools in the Winchester District sent more than 100 boxes of Christmas treats to the city’s homeless.

Peter Symonds College and Fair Oak Junior School students joined forces with St Thomas’ Church to deliver the Christmas cheer.

Homeless hostel Trinity Winchester said they were delighted to have received over 100 shoe boxes full of gifts for their service users.

There were practical gifts like gloves, socks and hats, all beautifully wrapped, as well as sweets and chocolates.

The festive boxes were received during Trinity’s Christmas dinner on Tuesday, December 17.

Sue McKenna, general manager at Trinity, said: “We were so grateful to be able to give out these fantastic gifts and spread some Christmas cheer to some of Winchester’s most vulnerable individuals.

“For many of the people we support, Christmas is lonely, depressing and bitterly cold. These gifts not only give our service users a treat during this festive time, but it also reminds them that people in our community do care and have been thinking of them. Thank you to everyone who got involved with this wonderful act of giving.”
