A CAMPAIGN has been launched urging residents to take care of themselves this winter.

Hitting the Cold Spots will see Hampshire County Council warning those suffering from asthma, diabetes, depression, heart disease and arthritis to take extra precautions.

The campaign gives practical advice on services available, reducing energy bills and keeping warm through the free advice line 0800 8048601. Experienced advisors can also make house calls when required.

Some tips for keeping warm: • Get the temperature right – your living room should be 21° C (70°F) and your bedroom and the rest of the house 18°C (65°F) – above this will be a waste of money and below may risk your health • If you can’t heat all your rooms then heat your living room during the day and your bedroom just before you go to bed at night • Fit draught excluders to seal gaps around doors and windows • Draw your curtains at dusk to help keep heat in • Make sure radiators are not obstructed • Check out what grants and benefits you could be entitled to help improve heating, energy efficiency or with bills • Exercise is good for you and can help keep you warm • Wear lots of thin layers – clothes made from cotton, wool or fleecy fibres are particularly good and maintain body heat
