FORMER pupils at a Chandler’s Ford school returned for a special awards event earlier this month.

Over 175 recent school leavers attended the event at the Toynbee School to receive awards commending everything from outstanding academic achievements to drama performances.

Arjun Shahi, Ciara Howard, Katy Caswell, Jenny Scott, Megan Leggett and Sam Anghelides were each presented with a special award towards the end of the ceremony after all the certificates and governors’ prizes had been handed out.

Guest of honour for the evening was Caroline Scott who had recently retired following nearly 40 years at the school.

Miss Scott congratulated the year group, who left the school in July, for their hard work and achievements.

“It’s commitment and dedication, involvement and confidence, and a real desire to succeed that is necessary,” she said.

Miss Scott also recalled the school’s technological progression noting that the school now had over 500 computers whereas it had a meagre one initially.

The winners of the special awards are as follows:

Megan Leggett – The “Jim Vaughan Award for Creative Design”.

Ciara Howard – The “Chris Barnard Geography Trophy”.

Arjun Shahi – The “Graham Hinves History Award”.

Jenny Scott – The “Bill Smith Science Shield” and the “Toynbee Shield for Outstanding Academic Achievement”.

Jenny obtained 9 Grade A*’s, 2 Grade A’s and a Distinction.

Katy Caswell – The “Jean O’Reilly Shield” for Personal Challenge and Achievement.

Sam Anghelides – The “David Jones Performing Arts Award”.
