A WINCHESTER woman has taken bronze at a prestigious sporting achievement event held two weeks ago.

Alison Crompton, of Andover Road, celebrated after receiving her award at this year’s Kellogg’s ASA Swimtastic Awards, in which she took home third prize for her swimming achievements in the Parent of the Year category.

Mrs Crompton has dedicated much of her spare time to the Winchester City Penguins Swimming Club over the last nine years. Two of her three children, Adam, 16, and Freya, 14, take lessons at the club and Mrs Crompton works as the press officer and is on the committee.

Mrs Crompton said: “My children have got so much out of swimming so it has been a pleasure for me to be able to put something back in. It has been a fantastic day and I have met some really great people; it’s a real honour to be here.”

Steve Parry, Olympic bronze medallist and BBC presenter, said: “The Swimtastic Awards are fantastic because it gives us the chance to reward and congratulate the people that aren’t usually in the limelight. We have so many brilliant awards tonight from the Fundraising Award to the Disability Swimmer of the Year, and it’s all of this that for me makes swimming so great, it really is a sport for everyone.”

Mrs Crompton attended the star-studded awards ceremony at Cocks Moors Woods Leisure Centre in Birmingham which included Olympic medallist, Sharron Davies, Commonwealth champion, Robbie Renwick and Paralympic gold medalist and BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year, Josef Craig.
