Massive cook off in support of Winchester Scouts
9:52am Wednesday 2nd October 2013 in News
MORE than 150 people turned out to cook up a storm in support of the 1st Winchester Scout Group’s Bigger and Better Hut campaign.
Twenty-two teams took part in the event at Sparsholt College on Saturday, September 21, working on open wood fires they built themselves.
Judged on creativity, teamwork and, of course, the final dish, it was a cook-off with a difference, including racing starts to collect ingredients.
The awards were presented by Peter Richards and Susie Barrie from the BBC's Saturday Kitchen.
The winners of the Under 11’s were Star Chefs, a team of four 10-year-old girls, while The Dutch Oven Duffins improved their runner-up position from last year to win the family category.
Winners of the 2013 Backwoods Masterchef award went to the Under-14 winners, Platypus.
“This is our second year and like our hut campaign this year’s Backwoods Masterchef was Bigger and Better.
“Everyone had a fabulous time. Where else can a whole family get together as a team, in the outdoors, cook together and have a heap of fun all at the same time? This event brings together some of the key elements of Scouting for parents and children alike,” said Dave Kesby, one of the organisers.
