HMRC figures reveal South East remains largest regional exporter in UK
THE SOUTH-EAST continues to be the biggest regional exporter, according to the latest statistics released by HMRC.
The total value of exports for the region for the first half of the year was £22.66 billion, which the statistics reveal is an increase on last year’s figures.
Overseas sales have risen from £10.83 billion in the last quarter of 2012 (October-December) to £11.57 billion in the second quarter of 2013 (April- June), while the number of exporters in the south-east between April - June 2013 rose to 8,659, compared to the same period last year.
The rise of exports to fast growing, emerging markets in Africa, the Far East and South America has been particularly welcomed by South East regional director for UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), Lewis Scott.
He said: “These markets are where our future growth lies, so we are keen to build on this which is why UKTI in the South East is organising trade missions to Singapore, Thailand, India and the Philippines and Brazil and events on the themes of Africa and Brazil.”
