Shawford and Compton Horticultural show a success
As the sun shone outside, green fingered parishioners also had their chance to shine, as a dizzying array of all-things horticultural went on display at Shawford Parish Hall.
An annual exhibition was open to society members and the public alike from 2.30 p.m, and by 3.30pm it was time for the prize-giving. Those gathered also enjoyed tea and cakes.
And the home-made jams, sponges and fine-knitted bobble hats and scarves didn’t escape scrutiny from the keen-eyed judges either.
Society secretary, Jan Brook, said: “What a wonderful day we had for the 19th Annual Show.
“The enthusiasm and commitment of members was obvious – well done to all of them.”
The Young Persons' Section was won by Theo Roberts, while the Best Exhibit in Section went to Frankie Roberts. The Admiral's Cup for the Best Exhibit in Vegetable Section was taken by Margaret Gaines for her cherry tomatoes, and the Best Individual Exhibit for the whole Show, the Wilmshurst Cup, went to Jenny Walmsley for her foliage pot plant.
The Kelmscot Rose Bowl, for the most points overall in the show, was won by Jan Brook.
