Twyford pupils swell choir for African music extravaganza
CHILDREN from Twyford School have taken to the big stage in an extravaganza of African song.
Southampton Central Hall saw nearly 200 singers take to the stage as the schoolchildren were joined by pupils of King Edward VI School and two adult choirs, The Twyford Singers and Viva Voces.
On March 9, they performed Alexander L’Estrange’s Zimbe!, raising more than £1500 for the charity Farm Africa.
Highlights included the children’s Ghanaian playground songs, the Zimbabwean wedding song and the sequence of protest and freedom songs at the end of the performance.
The event was co-ordinated, directed and conducted by David Hall, director of music at Twyford School.
Mr Hall said: “The children at Twyford School love their singing and it was fantastic to share this experience with other choirs from the community. Not only was the concert a great success, but the process of rehearsing the music was a real pleasure for all involved.”
