THE University of Winchester has backed a former student’s business with a £1,600 grant.

Amber Leigh Mitchell runs Abstract Dance & Performing Arts, which offers dance, drama, singing and music tuition and fitness classes.

She set the business up in October 2011 while still studying for a degree in choreography and dance.

The performing arts group now has around 130 students and four teachers as well as Amber as principal.

Amber said: “We have grown very quickly and introduced many new classes within the last year and offer classes from £2 to ensure we can cater for students from poorer backgrounds which enables everyone to be part of a school and take part in performances.”

The funding will go towards costumes for the summer term performance at the Kings Theatre in Southsea.

The business has also received £500 sponsorship from Southern Electric.
