POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 40-year-old man from Switzerland was robbed as he walked along an alleyway in Southampton.

Two men approached him as he went down an alley between Milton Road and Archers Road.

One of the robbers was wearing some sort of white mask and punched the man in the face. He then hit him in the face with a beer can breaking his nose.

They took his wallet from him which contained some bank cards, £220 and around £50 in Euros and Swiss Francs. They then made off across Hill Lane and then down Howard Road.

Officers are now asking for anyone who saw the men or thinks they know who carried out the attack between 7pm and 7.45pm on Sunday, November 30 to contact them.

They are asked to call PC Steve Ashenden at in the Southampton Robbery Investigation Team at Hulse Road on 0845 045 4545 or call Crimestoppers, the charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Another isolated incident, Mr Police Chief?

Oh Dear!

A 'rare incident' in sleepy crime free Southampton.

So no-one told him then that crime was rife and that the police dont care if you're physically abused, robbed or harmed then.

A caveat should be written in bold print on any tourist pamplets and info sheets. Maybe banner advertising at sea and air ports would be helpful too.

Yeah, these things happen so rarely they HAD to set up a "Southampton Robbery Investigation Team".

It just seems that on most occasions when a crime is committed, a police spokesperson trots out the "isolated incident"

If they spent less money and time on spin and PC, and doing what they are paid, and expected to do, crime rates should drop.

Sadly, this is the south of England. I, who is in the middle of the country, have a picture of a terrible 'down town' drug, crime, and struggling area of deprivation, and an unreal way of life in the South East. Here I am, poor but free from trauma with children grown up with their own families and I sit at night waiting for the ring at the door and anticipating a hooded stranger to knock me on the head and demand my jewels - cross my fingers I have none - so how dangerous are our night time crawlers?
