HUNDREDS of youngsters took to the stage in a bid to be named lords and ladies of the dance.

The O2 Guildhall Southampton was packed with families and friends last night for the fourth night of this year’s Rock Challenge.

Nine schools from across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight showcased their skills in a five to eight-minute performance.

A panel of judges looked for their skills in design, drama, performance and production.

Halterworth Community Primary School from Romsey came first and picked up 12 awards including an array of Awards of Excellence for choreography, performance and concept.

Wordsworth Primary School from Southampton came second followed by Gurnard Primary School from Cowes and St Neot's School from Hook.

Romsey and Southampton North MP Caroline Nokes was the first prize presenter and said: “It’s just an amazing experience so much talent and creativity and I just felt really lucky to have been able to be here to see them all and take part in a fantastic celebration of their talent and enthusiasm.”

Nine more schools will perform tonight including Bassett Green Primary School, Bitterne Manor Primary School ,St Patrick's Catholic Primary School, Sinclair Primary and Nursery School, Valentine Primary School.

Students from Winchester-based Stanmore Primary School also showed their skills along with youngsters from Wellow Primary School, St Mark's CE Primary School, Lanesend Primary School in Cowes.

Each night a special souvenir copy of the Daily Echo will be on sale at the Guildhall featuring the local Rock Challenge teams participating that night.

Winners from each night will perform again at the Southern finals at Portsmouth Guildhall next April, when Rock Challenge’s champions will be named.
