FAMILIES went back in time to the Saxon period in a Hampshire town.
Anglo-Saxon life was the theme of a family fun day held in Romsey.
A series of events on Saturday ware organised by King John's House, Romsey Abbey and Trench 1 Archaeology.
More than 45 families took part in activities on Saturday, these included digging for Saxon artefacts, trying their hand at bracelet weaving and designing a shield.
They also enjoyed Saxon snacks and a story around the fire.
The day also included a visit to Romsey Abbey to explore Saxon secrets of the church using a trail sheet.
Gemma Ingason, an archaeologist from Trench 1, said the event was a huge success.
Gemma said: "There were a lot of local families and families from further afield who came out to celebrate our unique heritage in an interesting way."
Trench 1 posted online: "Thank you to everyone who joined us in King John's House and Heritage Centre and Romsey Abbey. We had an incredible day stepping back into the Saxon period."
