A CHOIR has been given the royal seal of approval.

Romsey newlywed, the Honourable Alexandra Hooper, has become a patron of the Romsey Male Voice Choir.

It comes just two weeks after she tied the knot with Thomas Hooper at the society wedding of the year at Romsey Abbey.

The Queen and Prince Philip as well as royal families from around the globe watched on as the bride, who is a goddaughter of Princess Diana, was given away by Prince Charles.

Crowds gathered around the abbey for a glimpse of the happy couple on their special day.

Now the Honourable Alexandra Hooper, nee, Knatchbull, who is in line to the throne, has made another landmark by becoming patron of the 60-strong choir.

Basingstoke Gazette: Lady Alexandra Knatchbull is a goddaughter of Princess Diana.

She said: “It is a great pleasure and an honour to be a patron of the Romsey Male Voice Choir. I will look forward to meeting the members and hearing the choir when I can. I am delighted to have been asked and will do what I can to further the success and reputation of this important and already impressive choir.”

The choir is currently preparing for its next concert at Romsey Abbey from 7.30pm on July 23 where they will raise cash for the venue.

Choir chairman Geoff Skinner said: “Romsey Male Voice Choir has become a well-known and integral part of the rich cultural life of the town and its environs, and over the years has raised thousands of pounds for local charities.

“We are extremely fortunate to now have Alexandra as our patron and with her support I am sure we will indeed be able to do more for charity and for the young musicians we seek to help.

Basingstoke Gazette:

“Our next concert is once more in Romsey Abbey, where Alexandra and her husband were recently married.

“Profits and donations on this occasion will be for Abbey Funds. Understandably Alexandra is not available to attend this particular concert, but we hope to welcome her to a future event in Romsey later in the year.”

The Honourable Alexandra Hooper is also the first female president of the Romsey and District Scouts, patron of Romsey Sea Cadets and of The Mountbatten School.

Tickets to the choir’s upcoming concert cost £10 and are available by calling 01794 514880.
