MORE than £6,000 was raised in the run up to Christmas for good causes thanks to people helping a benevolent society.

Romsey, Chandler’s Ford and District Round Table are looking for nominations to decide how the cash from the Medieval Mummers and Santa’s Sleigh would be best allocated.

Throughout December the society went round the town collecting cash for a range of good causes in the town. Now they’d like to know where to send it.

To nominate a cause visit www.facebook.com/ RomseyRT by Sunday (January 10).

Last year about 20 charities and individuals were supported by Romsey, Chandlers Ford and District Round Table.

Andy Reynolds, of the Round Table, said: “Last year we gave grants ranging from a bike trailer to help a family with a daughter with complex learning and medical needs to buying a canoe for the Chandlers Ford Scout Canoe Club. So think big, and let us know the unsung heroes and good causes in your community.

“This was the best Christmas fundraising total to date, with records being broken by the Santa Sleigh fundraising, which was helped this year by Naomi Reading, the Romsey Carnival Queen and Romsey Fire Station joining Santa on his rounds.

“Round Table members were delighted and overwhelmed by the generosity and reaction of local people.”

Santa Sleigh organiser Ross Knapman said: “I would like to thank all members of our team for throwing themselves wholeheartedly into the fundraising effort, and a huge thank you specially to Garry Lee, a veteran of many years, who managed to attend nearly every Santa Sleigh collection and Mummers performance over a three-week period, often undertaking both the Mummers plays and Santa Sleigh collections on the same night.

“We couldn’t have done so well without him.”

Young men aged 18 to 45 are needed to volunteer for the Romsey, Chandler’s Ford and District Round Table and help local causes.

They get together every other Tuesday evening and enjoy a varied and exciting mix of sports, social activities as well as charity fundraising.
