A SPORTS event in Romsey which was set to attract thousands of people has been cancelled today because of the weather.

More than 2000 people were expected to get active at The Romsey Community Games and Sports Fair.

Organisers of the event held at the Romsey Rapids Sports Complex say the torrential downpours forced the cancellation.

Activities available on the day were set to include a welly-throwing competition, an egg and spoon race, scaling the Valley Leisure climbing wall, crazy golf, a children’s play area and a running race.

A giant inflatable slide and obstacle course were also set to take centre stage.

A spokesperson for Romsey Rapids, told the Daily Echo: “The cancellation is because some of the activities we had on can’t take place due to the weather and because everything is based outside.”

“It is very disappointing, the organisers have put alot of effort in to make the day a success.”

It is not yet known if it will be rescheduled for a later date.
