WORK has started on a new kioskkiosk in Romsey War Memorial Park.

The council had set aside £160,000 for a timber-framed prefabricated structure but it was decided this was out of keeping with the park and a revised design has brough the cost of the project up to £253,000.

The new building, designed by Romsey architects Genesis Design, will be flood resilient (much of the park was underwater in February 2014’s floods) and will allow for all-year-round use.

The new one-storey building will have a curved terrace with seating at the front and flower beds “will add colour and soften the look of the new facility”, says Test Valley Borough Council.

Inside there will be a kitchen and food preparation area, a storage area and staff toilets.

The current public toilets are to be upgraded and extended and will be incorporated within the new single-storey structure.

Temporary toilet facilities will be available in the park during the building work, which is expected to be completed by the start of the school summer holidays, says the council.
