VALLEY Park should be a sea of yellow next spring.

Pupils from the community’s two primary schools planted 3,000 daffodil bulbs on verges next to Knightwood Road on Wednesday with a little help from parish council chairman Alan Dowden.

Mr Dowden said that more than 20,000 bulbs have been planted on roadside verges across the parish in the last decade.

He told the Advertiser: “The children have planted 22,000 bulbs since we started doing it 10 years ago. The children from St Francis and Knightwood schools have done an excellent job and they have made Valley Park a very special place to live. People always comment on how lovely the daffodils look each spring. The children take pride in planting the bulbs and they learn about looking after the environment,” said Mr Dowden.

He praised Test Valley Borough Council’s maintenance team led by Brett Hill for preparing the ground for the bulbs.

Recycling and waste management company Veolia provided free compost for the bulb planting and Bryony Williams from the organisation helped with the planting.
