ROMSEY’S MP wasn’t short of words of praise for a speech therapy service when she opened their new premises.

Caroline Nokes offically opened the new offices of Speaking Space, a day service for adults with a learning disability or autism, the first of its kind in the UK.

Brian Sains and his wife Alex Kelly run the service which has moved from Wade Park Farm at Ower to Fleming House in Alma Road, Romsey.

Alex is a former NHS speech therapist and Brian is an ex-learning disability nurse –they set up Speaking Space three years ago.

Ms Nokes said: “Speaking Space is a brilliant place right in the heart of Romsey providing a great service for young people with learning difficulties and other challenges to do with communication.”

Ms Nokes added: “I am so impressed with the commitment of Alex and Brian to help people express themselves’ and communicate.”

Alex and Brian moved to Romsey after outgrowing their Ower premises.

“We are particularly pleased to own Fleming House as it means we will be able to access all the lovely shops and facilities in Romsey. We will not only be able to teach effective communication skills at Speaking Space, but we will then be able to practise these skills out and about in the community. We are also hoping to help some of our young people to travel independently, so being opposite the train station is a huge benefit,” said the couple.
