THERE were some imaginative ideas in a scarecrow exhibition in a Test Valley village.

Folk in North Baddesley created effigies of a poacher, an elderly lady with her pet dog, a painter and decorator, Joseph and his amazing dream coat, a Morris dancer, two children in a boat, a woman in a deckchair holding a baby, Mrs Mop, a Minion and one called remember with poppies.

All the exhibits except the Morris dancer were on display in the graveyard at St John’s Church in the village. The Morris dancer was placed inside the ancient church.

Sally Kerson who organised the exhibition and is a lay minister at St John’s said: “The entries were very good but I would like to see more families and individual children taking part.

“Not so many people took part this year which is a great shame because it is something the whole village can get involved in and enjoy.”

Mrs Kerson that there were 17 scarecrows in the festival and the top adult exhibit was Mrs Mop which was the work of Kate Mitchell who organised games which included hook a duck at the event.

Winner of the children’s section was North Baddesley Infant School’s entry Remember with Poppies.

During the event, visitors were treated to music by the Birnie Boozle Band.
