POWER in parts of Romsey could be switched off within the next two hours.

It comes as workmen from Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution (SSEpd) are investigating a power cut at New Look in The Hundred in the town centre.

The rest of Romsey appears to be unaffected by the fault which has closed New Look, and it is currently cordoned off as engineers from SSEpd are on site investigating.

However to fix the fault, the power may have come off elsewhere in the town.

SSEpd did not know what areas, how many homes will be affected and what time this will happen.

A spokesman for SSEpd, said that the problem has come from a fault in an underground cable, and that the investigation into the fault will take place today and a repair will take place in the 'near future', but he did not say a time.

He said: "If a repair is done today, it will be done as quickly and efficiently as possible. If it requires a longer outage in the future we will try to notify customers."
