BLUSTERY weather failed to stop hundreds from enjoying themselves at Mottisfont Fete.

But organisers had to take extra measures to ensure tents and gazebos weren’t blown away as ex-tropical storm Bertha moved across Britain on Sunday.

Fete organiser Mike Horne joked: “It’s been an unbelievable weekend. I was expecting Bertha to come to the fete. I kept asking if anybody had seen her. We had to anchor the tents down because of the wind.”

Visitor numbers were down on last year but Mike still hailed the fete a great success.

Around 400 attended the event at the village hall compared with 500 in 2013.

“This was very good considering the weather earlier in the day,” said Mike.

For those who braved the breezy weather, there was chance to try their hand at bell ringing.

Lockerley and East Tytherley bellringers challeneged of fete-goers to have a go themselves on a mini ring of eight small bells.
