Today (Friday ) marks the start of a three-week public consultation by Test Valley Borough Council on a proposed on-street parking and traffic measures in Romsey.

The council claims that where possible the proposals reflect public comments received during an informal consultation carried out in January this year.

Portfolio Holder for Planning and Transport, Councillor Martin Hatley, said: “I am grateful to all those who took the time to comment on earlier proposals and would encourage all to have their say on the latest plans.

“I see these changes and the recent introduction of additional long stay parking at Romsey Rapids, with a short footpath giving safe and easy access to the town centre, as an opportunity to help shoppers, traders and residents move in and around the town more easily.”

The proposals would see an increase in the overall number of on-street parking spaces in the town centre. TVBC will also be taking over responsibility from the police for parking enforcement for roads in the town which are restricted to access only, such as Albany Road and Knatchbull Close. Other on-street parking restrictions for various additional roads in Romsey are also proposed.

Full details of the proposals and drawings will be available to view at the Council’s offices in the Former Magistrates’ Court from now until July 25. An exhibition of the proposals will also be held at Romsey Town Hall between 2 and 6 pm on Friday, July 11, Thursday, July 17 and Monday, July 21.
