HIPPIES, air hostesses and Christmas elves – the annual Copythorne Carnival had it all.

The 67th event held by the 2nd New Forest North (Stanley’s Own) Copythorne Scout Group attracted people of all ages to enjoy the spectacular carnival floats on show. The fun-filled weekend included a spectacular fire show, circus workshops, exciting trek cart races, and the carnival procession itself.

Youngsters from the Copythorne Guides, Cubs, Brownies and Scout groups dressed in themed costumes as they took to their floats on Saturday.

The event was opened by Hampshire adventurer James Ketchell, who has climbed Mount Everest, cycled around the world and rowed across the Atlantic.

The Scout and Guide float prize was won by 1st Copythorne Guides for their Guide Airways effort, while the 2nd Copythorne Brownies won the Cubs and Brownies float class for their Happy Birthday Brownies entry.

Bartley Water at the Seaside by Bartley Water Beavers impressed the judges in the Beavers and Rainbows group, and Copythorne Pre-school’s Teddy Bears’ Picnic won the other floats class.

Megan Wilton was crowned as carnival queen and she was joined by princesses Alexandra Marsh and Amelia Tomlinson.

The event also saw a family jamboree and hog roast and the Copythorne Steam and Vintage Rally took place yesterday.
