Jeweller makes money-back pledge if Brazil win World Cup

FOR most punters there is not a better bet for the World Cup than Brazil.

However, one Hampshire jeweller is praying that any one of the 31 other teams will lift the trophy.

He has launched a daring promotion which could cost him a small fortune if the home country comes out top next month.

Customers buying diamond rings and prestige watches will get their money back should the host nation triumph.

Kim Rose, owner of jeweller Scarlets, in Romsey, ran his first ‘money back’ scheme in 2003 when Southampton reached the FA Cup final.

Luckily for him he didn’t have to pay out as Saints were defeated 1-0 by Arsenal.

But his luck ran out when he ran another scheme on Saints in 2012, where customers would get money back should the team make it out of the Championship at the first attempt – it cost him £10,000.

The odds of Brazil winning the trophy on home soil are short. Most bookmakers are offering odds as low as 11-4.

The 57-year-old, who lives in Botley, said: “I would be shocked if Brazil did not win the World Cup in their own back yard.

“With their fantastic pedigree they are the best football nation in the world.

“I would have done the promotion on England, but this time around you must be realistic and as much as I love England they have not got much chance of winning.

“If Brazil win it will cost us a lot of money. Put it this way, it will mean I will not be going on holiday this year!”
